WMS is a classic developer of online slots.

Many of their games were first land based slots in brick-and-mortar casinos, but have been converted to online games over time. Granted, it's extremely rare to see a WMS slot with graphics that matches even the worst slot produced by NetEnt.

But then again, NetEnt are legendary when it comes to graphics and sound, so it's probably not fair to compare them only to the number one.

Compared to MicrogamingIGT and PlayTech, we'd say that WMS hold an equal standard on their slots. Sometimes better even.

We'll outline a bit of the history of WMS in this article, and also direct you to their best games and the juiciest casino bonuses you can get to play no deposit WMS slots.

The history of WMS

The Chicago based slot manufacturer WMS Gaming is a subsidiary of WMS Industries, which in turn became a subsidiary wholly owned by Scientific Games Corporation in 2013.

WMS entered the business of creating reel-spinning slots back in 1994, and in 1996 its first hit slot machine was released on the markets. "Reel 'em In" was a multi line, multi-coin secondary bonus video slot machine that was placed in hundreds of bricks and mortar casinos. WMS followed up this success with several similar games, such as Jackpot Party, Boom and Filthy Rich.

The early history of WMS Industries has roots that date back to the 1943, when Williams Manufacturing Company was founded. Williams produced pinball machines and video arcade games, just like Novomatic did in the beginning. Then came the rapid decline of the arcade industry in the 1990s, and the company's pinball business ceased to be profitable. All those circumstances coalesced into a strategic company decision: to enter the market of casinos, or more precisely: slot machines and where eventually, the wonderful world of no deposit WMS slots would be born.

The gaming industry in the United States was growing rapidly during the 1990s as additional states permitted both casino gambling and video lottery games, not to mention that Native American tribes built gaming casino. The new focus for WMS became slot machines, and they became very good at making them in a very short time.

But in 2001 a glitch was uncovered in the company's software, one that allowed players to earn credits on several of the machines without actually paying for them. And since misery loves company, more backlashes came at the same time. The industry leader, IGT, sued WMS for patent infringement. The issue was about its reel-spinning games, and IGT won in court, which required WMS to limit the possibilities for gamblers to adjust the number of paylines they want to gamble with on their reel-spinning games.

In 2001 WMS introduced the acclaimed Monopoly-themed series of slots, and this time the company decided to lease them out to casinos, instead of selling them. It turned out to be a very wise decision.

By 2011, the lease fees and the net licensing revenues generated by each game exceeded the profit margins of the games WMS were still selling to casinos. Their revenue grew to an all-time high of
$783.3 million during the same year, a number which declined much during the coming years.

The primary market of WMS is still the United States, where they get 70 % of the company's revenues from. But the software developer have distribution facilities in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, China, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as an entire online gaming center in Belgium.

Rome & Egypt is yet another of the many WMS successes out on the market. This time, the developers managed to create something new and original from a theme that is more worn out than a punching bag in a Rocky Balboa training montage. Instead of creating a slot about Rome, or one about Egypt, they mixed both into one, and added two famous personalities to the mix: Julius Caesar and Cleopatra.

The result? Intriguing, compelling and slightly addictive. Take a look at our review and try it with free spins so you don't have to risk your own money until you know if you like the game or not.

Cluedo Spinning Detectives is a great adaptation of the beloved board game. Just like in Monopoly, WMS have managed to take a game that is very different from anything even remotely casino related and turn it into a highly entertaining online slot.

This is a highly interactive slot that feels a bit like a computer game crossed with an online slot, and our regular readers all know that we love slots with a twist like this. Highly recommended, just as most of the productions WMS have on the market today.
